Fatboy Slim Admits He's Lost His 'Love for Creating Music'

Fatboy Slim's approach to music production has evolved significantly.

During a fan Q&A hosted by The Sun, the "Praise You" artist, legally known as Norman Cook, confessed that his enthusiasm for creating music had diminished, two decades after his last album, Palookaville, was released.

“My recent singles originated from live shows,” said Fatboy Slim, 61. “They were crafted specifically to play during performances.”

He elaborated: “I had unique tracks in my set that resonated with audiences. We realized we could clear the samples and officially release them.”

Fatboy Slim discussed how his perspective on music had transformed over time.

“You can’t create music without intense passion; it has to drive you from the moment you wake," he explained.

He continued: “I don’t feel that way about music production anymore, though I am passionate about DJing and organizing events."

The "Right Here, Right Now" artist admitted spending five years struggling with this change.

“But then I thought, everyone enjoys my DJing and I prefer it, so I’ll focus on that,” he said.

He added, "I hope my passion for music production returns someday."

Fatboy Slim also talked about his son Woody, 24, whom he shares with his late ex-wife Zoe Ball, choosing a career in DJing.

“When Woody lived with me, he always had an interest in music and later, clubbing,” he said. “I used to ask if he wanted to be a DJ. He’d say, ‘I’ve thought about it, but I’d always be in your shadow, as your son.'"

That changed after Woody started university in Bristol. He called to say, "Dad, I’ve started DJing."

“For years, I might have pushed him,” said Fatboy Slim. “But he needed to pursue it independently.”

He added, “We both wanted to avoid any hints of nepotism.”
