Josh, 44, criticized the network on his Instagram Stories on Monday, January 6, accusing them of fabricating a conflict between the former partners prior to the show’s January 29 debut. Christina, 41, responded by resharing his post with the comment, “Manufactured?!”

She further asserted, “I am certain no one at HGTV instructed you to be disrespectful to me; that behavior was entirely genuine,” in her own Instagram Stories on January 6.

Christina reinforced her stance by posting a selfie of herself crying in a car, taken after filming the show in the summer of 2024. She captioned the image, “This was taken June 21, 2024, after a shoot with Josh. This is ‘real’ and serves as a reminder to myself that I deserve better.”

The Christina on the Coast star rebutted Josh shortly after he shared a screenshot of an article that hinted at a “tense fight” between the two, slated to be shown on The Flip Off. He commented, “[That feeling when] you can’t secure sufficient ratings with celebrity designers, so you resort to manufactured drama involving me, a non-celebrity. @hgtv, you’ve changed.”

Initially, the upcoming HGTV show was intended to feature Christina and Josh competing against her former husband Tarek El Moussa and his current wife, Heather Rae El Moussa in a house flipping contest. However, Josh was subsequently removed from the show after both he and Christina filed for divorce in July 2024.

The video displayed Josh predominantly engaging in a one-sided dialogue until he ultimately instructed his former wife to "be quiet.

This is a competition. We must employ every possible strategy. I am willing to do whatever it takes to secure a victory. 'Halls rule!'" he declared, while she remained reticent in the passenger seat. "You need to say it with me, or at least repeat it, to show your support."

Despite her decision to stay silent, Josh pressed on, "Remember, you are now a Hall. Do not get confused about your surname in this competition."

He proceeded to label her as "rude" for her lack of response, to which Christina calmly replied, "I do not over-talk."

Before Josh criticized HGTV for allegedly misrepresenting the issues in their relationship on the show, he reflected on the difficult lessons learned in 2024, amidst their divorce.

"2024 was a challenging year, but it has been incredibly educational. It has allowed me to grow and become stronger than ever before," he wrote on Instagram on January 1, alongside a photo of himself relaxing in a pool. "Sometimes, difficult situations can transform you. You become a different, better version of yourself."

Josh further elaborated that these struggles “opened [his] eyes to many things.”

"Although it was tough, I am grateful for the lessons it taught me," he continued. "I always remind myself that God gives his toughest battles to his strongest soldiers.
